SERVICES
We offer a wide variety of options for every type of fly fisher, from large rivers and thin blue lines to trout spey instruction. We are constantly finding new approaches to trip development to meet client needs and expectations. Below is a list of what would be described as our core trips. Customized trips are available for those who are looking for something a bit more specific. An example would be a two-day trip focusing on wild brook trout on small streams off the grid. If you are thinking about a custom type of trip, please feel free to contact us. If we can’t fill your needs, we will do our best to refer you to someone who may be able to help you reach your goals.
Wade trips (both full and half-day options) on the Kennebec, Dead, Carrabassett, and Sandy rivers. We guide on the East Outlet (Tuesday-Thursday only), The Forks, Bingham, and the Madison section of the Kennebec River. From Long Falls to The Forks, the Dead has more than enough water to cover in a week. Both the Carrabassett and Sandy are classic freestones in every sense of the word.
This being the interweb, we’re not going to list numerous other medium-sized rivers that we ply our trade on. Suffice it to say, these waters are very seasonal and are optimal at limited times through the season.
Technique-specific trips. If you would like to spend the day learning a specific skill, like streamer techniques, wet fly presentations, or building and fishing different nymph rigs, these types of trips can save you a lot of time. Learning techniques in a visual, hands-on environment is money.
Thin blue lines. Way too many to choose from in our area. If you like small wild brook trout ( sometimes bigger than expected), three weights, and dry flies, Maine should be at the top of your list. These trips are suited for a single angler in good physical condition.
Trout spey trips. Fishing with a trout spey is one of the most enjoyable ways to spend time on a river. Offered only during the spring and fall seasons.
Gift trips. A unique gift for special occasions, such as retirements, graduations, and other milestones. We can customize these trips given enough lead time.
Basic spey casting instruction. If you want to save time in the sometimes confusing world of two-handed casting, start with some basic instructions. Disclaimer: I am not a certified two-handed casting instructor, though I have caught more than a few fish with a spey rod, so I must be doing something right. Available through April to early May and again from late July to the end of August. This time frame allows you to prepare for the peak of spring and fall conditions. This is a half-day session for one to two students.
All trips include the following. Rod/reel outfits, if needed (we always carry one or two spare pre-rigged rods on every trip), all terminal tackle, flies (please feel free to bring your confidence patterns), lunch, snacks, and beverages for full-day trips. Snacks and beverages for half-days. A few words about water bottles. We’ve kicked the plastic water bottle habit and haven’t looked back. We provide fresh water in a sterile container that can refill water bottles throughout the day. If you can please bring your water bottle, or we can provide a sterile one for you. A Maine license is required for the day/s you are fishing, whether you are being guided or not. Head over to https://apps1.web.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/moses_v3/step1 to begin the process. We also have a full array of loaner gear at our disposal(such as waders, boots, shells, etc.) if you are flying in and don’t want to carry a kit for one day of fishing, or are just starting in this game.
